Makor
Miriam is the sisterhood of Beit HaShofar Synagogue in Seattle, WA.
Women of all ages, from Bat Mitzvah age and up, come together for
L'shem Shamayim (the sake of Heaven).
Makor
Miriam is a deep well to suit the tastes and aspirations of our
women. We offer a Rosh Chodesh stitch circle, a reading group called
Ayni, movie evenings, melaveh malkahs as a source for learning,
opportunities to do tzedakah for the greater community, facilitate
Kiddush and other simchot, host Mah Jongg fever, and provide a
wellspring of information and inspiration for Jewish living in
Mashiach - in person as well as online.
We
also a part of the UMJC (Union of Messianic Jewish
Congregations) national sisterhood called Achot. In
partnering with Achot, some of our tzedakah projects help
support their main tzedakah project called S.M.I.L.E. (Sharing
Messiah in Love Everywhere). Please see our link in the menu side bar to learn more about Achot.
In
addition, we give a tithe portion of our members' dues to JWI
(Jewish Women International). This organization is crucial in
combating domestic abuse in Jewish communities worldwide and helping
victims of domestic abuse. JWI offers advocacy for women and
empowers women to maintain healthier relationships and lives. We
believe strongly in their mission and encourage our own women to be
advocates for healthy relationships and lives. Please see our
advocacy link on the home page to learn more about JWI.
